Skagit Valley “East 90”

Situated between the Cascade Mountains to the east and Puget Sound to the west, the Skagit Valley is a picturesque region in northwestern Washington. It’s known for having vibrant landscapes, rich agricultural heritage, and diverse wildlife.

The "East 90" location is a well-known birding and photography hotspot in the Skagit Valley, particularly popular during the winter months. The nickname "East 90" comes from its position near a 90-degree turn in the road.

The Skagit Valley is a haven for bird photographers, offering a diverse array of species throughout the year. In winter, when the weather turns cold up north, the area will get in influx of Bald Eagles, Snow Geese, Trumpeter Swans and Short-Eared Owls (SEOs) as well as many duck species like Northern Pintail and Gadwall. Common year-round birds include Great Blue Heron, Western Meadowlark and Northern Harriers.

The best time to view and photograph these birds is early morning and late afternoon.
